February 19, 2010
Dear Partners,
At a news conference last week, First Lady Michelle Obama announced the launch of Let's Move, a new national campaign to fight childhood obesity. This effort will engage families, communities and the public and private sectors to help reduce childhood obesity within a generation. President Obama also signed a memorandum that establishes a federal task force to work on this issue.
As you probably know, pediatric quality of care is one of NEACH's main priorities, and fighting childhood obesity is a critical component of this work. In 2010, NEACH hopes to focus on issues related to pediatric obesity prevention and to engage our partners in moving this important agenda forward.
We recently expanded our pediatric quality of care web page to include a section on childhood obesity prevention, and we would love to include more links to New England-based projects and resources. In order to get a better sense of the work that is currently being done in the region around childhood obesity, we ask that you e-mail Maia Fedyszyn at mfedyszyn@communitycatalyst.org with information on projects or initiatives on which you or others are working.
We look forward to continuing to share information with you about childhood obesity prevention. If you have any questions or comments, feel free to contact me directly at 617-275-2929 or arosenthal@communitycatalyst.org.
Sincerely,
Amy Rosenthal
Project Director
P.S. We received a clarification from our partners at NH Healthy Kids about their efforts to explore the development of a health insurance product for young adults. Please see our updated alert here (originally sent February 4th).
