February 5, 2009
Dear Partners,
As if yesterday’s signing of the SCHIP reauthorization bill wasn’t enough, we received news today that President Obama has submitted a letter to the Secretary of Health and Human Service to rescind the August 17th Directive. As a reminder, the Directive prohibits states from covering children over 250% of the Federal Poverty Level (FPL) unless they meet several strict minimum requirements (see our August 22, 2007 Alert for more information on the Directive’s requirements).
This is particularly good news for all of us, as five of the six New England states cover children over 250% FPL. Please stay tuned for future Alerts on SCHIP implementation. The Alliance is committed to providing you with support and resources as we begin to implement the new provisions of the SCHIP reauthorization bill.
Thank you again for your continued support and hard work. As always, please feel free to contact me (617-275-2929, arosenthal@communitycatalyst.org) directly with questions.
Sincerely,
Amy Rosenthal
Project Director
